Summary

This case study details a pregnant woman with Antithrombin deficiency and a history of blood clots who developed severe pre-eclampsia with HELLP syndrome. She required an emergency C-section and management of postpartum hemorrhage.

Observation:

  • A 39-year-old Chinese female, gravida 3 para 2, with Antithrombin deficiency and prior venous thromboembolism presented at 29+4 weeks gestation.
  • She developed severe pre-eclampsia complicated by HELLP syndrome.
  • Emergency cesarean section was performed due to non-reassuring fetal status.

Findings:

  • The cesarean section was complicated by postpartum hemorrhage due to uterine atony.
  • A B-Lynch suture was required intraoperatively to control the hemorrhage.
