    Background:

    • Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) encompasses a range of conditions causing neurovascular compression.
    • Symptoms can be neurological, vascular, or mixed, significantly impacting patient quality of life.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy and outcomes of surgical decompression for thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS).
    • To assess the success rate of the supraclavicular approach in treating TOS.

    Main Methods:

    • A consecutive series of 50 surgical decompression operations for TOS in 43 patients over 7 years.
    • Procedures included excision of cervical ribs, first ribs, and fibrous bands; cervical sympathectomy was performed in select cases.
    • The supraclavicular approach was utilized for all thoracic outlet decompression procedures.

    Main Results:

    • Complete symptom relief was achieved in 74% of limbs, with improvement in an additional 20%.
    • Overall, 94% of patients experienced good results following supraclavicular thoracic outlet decompression.
    • No mortality was reported during the study period.

    Conclusions:

    • Surgical decompression via the supraclavicular approach is a highly effective treatment for thoracic outlet syndrome.
    • The procedure demonstrates a favorable safety profile with excellent outcomes for patients with TOS.
