Collagen corneal shields--an important therapeutic modality
Abstract:
The collagen shield is fabricated from porcine scleral tissue which closely resembles the collagen molecules of the human eye. The number (12, 24, 72) that suffixes the trademark indicates the maximum number of hours required for the shield to dissolve. The judgment of the physician determines the suitability of repeated applications. The collagen corneal shield holds promise as an effective drug delivery system.
