Summary

Endoscopic nerve release and osteotomy effectively treated infraorbital nerve entrapment after facial trauma when conservative methods failed. This minimally invasive approach offers a new option for complex nerve decompression in plastic and craniofacial surgery.

Area of Science:

  • Plastic Surgery
  • Craniofacial Surgery
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery
  • Nerve Entrapment Treatment

Background:

  • Endoscopic-assisted techniques are underutilized in plastic and craniofacial surgery.
  • Infraorbital nerve entrapment can result from traumatic facial injuries.
  • Conservative management often fails for persistent nerve compression.

Observation:

  • A patient presented with infraorbital nerve entrapment post-traumatic facial injury.
  • Conservative treatments were unsuccessful in alleviating the patient's symptoms.
  • Surgical intervention was required to address the nerve compression.

Findings:

  • An endoscopic-assisted nerve release procedure was performed.
  • The release involved decompression of surrounding soft tissues.
  • A circumferential osteotomy of the infraorbital foramen was completed.

Implications:

  • Endoscopic techniques can be successfully applied to infraorbital nerve decompression.
  • This approach may offer a minimally invasive alternative for complex facial nerve entrapments.
  • Further research into endoscopic applications in craniofacial surgery is warranted.
