[Causes of death of patients with tuberculosis]

The causes of 156 deaths in patients with tuberculosis were analyzed within the period from 1984 to 1986. There was detected direct correlation between the deaths and severity of the specific process, complications and concomitant diseases. The proportion of patients observed for not more than a year after the disease statement and patients with relapsing tuberculosis was high among the deaths. This was indicative of unsatisfactory early detection of tuberculous patients, low-quality dispensary observation and insufficient antirelapse measures.
