[Problems of preventing ischemic heart disease among naval personnel]
Insights
This study highlights the need for better medical follow-ups for sailors with ischemic heart disease (IHD). Improved monitoring and prevention strategies are proposed for seafarers
Area of Science:
- Maritime Health
- Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology
Context:
- Investigated ischemic heart disease (IHD) incidence in ship's crew.
- Assessed medical care for sailors at sea and ashore.
- Analyzed health-related reasons for crew disembarkation.
Purpose:
- To identify deficiencies in the current sailor follow-up system.
- To propose improvements for dynamic medical supervision of seafarers.
Summary:
- Research revealed inadequate follow-up systems for sailors with IHD.
- Proposed enhancements include early detection, risk factor management, and continuous care.
- Focus on primary and secondary prevention strategies for seafarers.
Impact:
- Aims to optimize medical care and reduce health-related disruptions for ship's crew.
- Provides a framework for structured, ongoing health management for seafarers.
- Contributes to improved occupational health standards in the maritime industry.
Abstract:
The research specific to the incidence of ischemic heart disease (IHD) among ship's crew members, the state of medical care of sailors during the voyage and at seashore and the analysis of the causes of drafting sailors out of the ship because of health problems demonstrated the necessity of improving the existing system of follow-ups for sailors. The obtained results formed the basis for submitting concrete proposals on the organization of dynamic follow-ups during voyages and at shore for sailors with IHD and associated risk factors, the proposals involved detection of early and occult disease forms, risk factors, formation of medical supervision groups, principles of using primary and secondary prevention techniques, continuity of follow-ups at shore and at sea.
