Abstract:
When addressing the subject of quality assessment and audit in health care, confusion can arise over what they are, how they are applied in practice and with what effect. The aim of this paper is to clarify the focus and scope of quality assessment and audit in health care, to consider their relationship to the research process and to discuss ways in which they can be most effectively utilised to contribute to improvements in health care.
