Dermoid cysts, rare congenital ectodermal anomalies, can occur in the ear's pinna. This case study details the successful surgical removal of a dermoid cyst from a young girl's auricle.

Background:

  • Dermoid cysts are congenital tumors originating from ectodermal remnants.
  • While common in other areas, they are exceptionally rare in the head and neck, particularly the auricle (ear).

Observation:

  • An 8-year-old female presented with a dermoid cyst located in the conchal region of her auricle.
  • The cyst was a congenital anomaly, present since birth.

Findings:

  • The dermoid cyst was surgically excised completely.
  • Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of a dermoid cyst.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of considering rare presentations of congenital anomalies in pediatric otolaryngology.
  • Complete surgical resection is an effective treatment for auricular dermoid cysts.
  • Early diagnosis and intervention can prevent potential complications and cosmetic concerns.
