    Summary

    A large kidney tumor was initially suspected to be renal cell carcinoma. However, histological examination revealed it to be a rare giant oncocytoma, challenging initial diagnostic assumptions.

    Background:

    • Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common kidney malignancy.
    • Oncocytomas are benign kidney tumors, typically smaller than 3 cm.
    • Distinguishing between RCC and oncocytoma preoperatively can be challenging.

    Observation:

    • A 70-year-old male presented with a large right kidney lesion detected via ultrasonography.
    • Computed tomography (CT) confirmed a substantial renal tumor.
    • Clinical and radiological data suggested a high probability of renal cell carcinoma.

    Findings:

    • Histological examination unexpectedly revealed the large renal tumor to be an oncocytoma.
    • This specific case represents a giant oncocytoma, significantly larger than typical presentations.
