This study developed a Dutch tariff for the EQ-5D-5L instrument using composite time trade-off (cTTO) values from a general population sample. The new tariff reflects Dutch societal preferences for health states, aiding economic evaluations of healthcare interventions.
Area of Science:
- Health Economics
- Psychometrics
- Societal Valuations
Background:
- The EuroQol five-dimensional questionnaire (EQ-5D-5L) was introduced in 2009 with five response levels.
- Societal values are needed for all 3125 health states to utilize the EQ-5D-5L in economic evaluations.
Purpose of the Study:
- To derive a Dutch societal value set (tariff) for the EQ-5D-5L health states.
Main Methods:
- Health state values were collected via face-to-face interviews using composite time trade-off (cTTO) and discrete choice experiment (DCE).
- Data were modeled using tobit regression for cTTO and multinomial conditional logit for DCE.
- Model performance was assessed using internal consistency, goodness of fit, and theoretical considerations.
Main Results:
- A representative sample of 1003 Dutch individuals participated; data from 979 (cTTO) and 992 (DCE) were analyzed.
- The tobit model was preferred for tariff development due to its handling of left-censored data.
- Predicted EQ-5D-5L values ranged from -0.446 to 1.
Conclusions:
- A Dutch tariff for the EQ-5D-5L was successfully established based on cTTO data.
- The tariff represents the preferences of the Dutch population.
- This tariff can be applied to assess the impact of healthcare interventions in economic evaluations.
