Additive Prognostic Value of Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction in a Population-Based Cohort

Low left ventricular global longitudinal strain (GLS), measured by 2D speckle tracking, predicts cardiovascular events independently of traditional risk factors in a population-based study.

- Increased cardiovascular event risk correlated with the number of left ventricular abnormalities, including low GLS, diastolic dysfunction, and hypertrophy.

- Low GLS, assessed by 2D speckle tracking, independently predicts future cardiovascular events.
- Left ventricular midwall strain is a simple echocardiographic measure for cardiovascular risk assessment in population-based cohorts.
