Summary

Researchers created animal models of cholangiectasis without biliary stenosis by removing supportive tissues around the bile duct. This finding challenges the assumption that biliary stenosis always causes cholangiectasis.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop animal models of cholangiectasis independent of biliary stenosis.
  • To investigate the effects of surgically altering the extrahepatic bile duct environment.

  • Surgical stripping of supportive tissues surrounding the extrahepatic bile duct in 24 mongrel dogs.
