Intractable singultus, often resistant to medical treatment, can rarely stem from cerebrovascular disease. Microvascular decompression surgery offers a potential solution for persistent hiccups unresponsive to other therapies.

  • A 58-year-old male presented with a 30-year history of intractable singultus.
  • The patient's symptoms were refractory to multiple medical interventions.
  • Cerebrovascular compression of the lower medulla oblongata by the vertebral artery was identified.

Findings:

  • Microvascular decompression surgery successfully resolved the patient's intractable singultus.
  • This procedure relieved pressure on the anterolateral medulla.
