Bronchoconstriction-triggered cough in atopic cough: A retrospective study

- Methacholine-induced cough was measured in 13 AC patients and 12 CVA patients.

- AC patients showed a significantly lower number of coughs (1/32 min) following Mch inhalation compared to CVA patients (35.5/32 min).
- The Mch challenge induced milder bronchoconstriction (PC35-PEF40) than typically used for asthma diagnosis (PC20-FEV1).
Conclusions:
- The cough response to bronchoconstriction is diminished in AC relative to CVA.
- This differential cough response may serve as a valuable diagnostic marker for chronic cough.
