He currently chairs the Ethics Committee of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery and the Cardiothoracic Ethics Forum, and is Associate Editor (Ethics) of the Annals of Thoracic Surgery. He is a former chair of the Society of Thoracic Surgeon's Standards and Ethics Committee and the American Medical Association's Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs.
