Summary

Enhanced lipoabdominoplasty techniques improve outcomes by addressing pubic area and flank contouring, reducing scar height, and preventing abdominal bulging. These modifications offer a safer, more effective body contouring solution.

Area of Science:

  • Plastic Surgery
  • Aesthetic Surgery
  • Body Contouring

Background:

  • Abdominoplasty is a frequent cosmetic procedure globally and in the US.
  • Lipoabdominoplasty combines abdominoplasty with liposuction for improved body contour.
  • Traditional lipoabdominoplasty has limitations including pubic area/flank treatment, scar position, and abdominal bulging.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate surgical modifications of lipoabdominoplasty aimed at improving outcomes and addressing shortcomings.
  • To assess the safety and efficacy of enhanced lipoabdominoplasty techniques.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective study of 348 patients undergoing enhanced lipoabdominoplasty (Jan 2010 - Feb 2015).
  • Surgical improvements included deep abdominal, pubic, and flank/dorsum liposuction; Scarpa fascia removal; mons lipolifting; and pubic fixation.

Main Results:

  • Enhanced techniques facilitated superior flap advancement to the pubic region, preserving neurovascular structures.
  • Scarpa fascia removal prevented infraumbilical bulging without increasing seroma rates.
  • Pubic lifting and fixation rejuvenated the area and prevented scar elevation.

Conclusions:

  • The described surgical modifications are safe and effective for lipoabdominoplasty.
  • These enhancements reduce common complications and lead to improved aesthetic outcomes.
