Background:

  • Primary heart tumors are exceptionally rare, occurring in 0.01-0.3% of autopsy cases.
  • Malignant primary cardiac tumors, including sarcoma and rhabdomyosarcoma, account for nearly 25% of cases.

Observation:

  • A 45-year-old female presented with a left atrial tumor.
  • The patient underwent three surgical interventions over a nine-year period for the recurrent tumor.

Findings:

  • Rhabdomyosarcoma is the second most frequent malignant primary heart tumor after angiosarcoma.
  • Symptoms of primary cardiac tumors include obstruction, systemic embolization, and constitutional symptoms.

Implications:

  • While benign tumors have an excellent surgical prognosis, malignant cardiac tumors have a limited prognosis.
  • Recurrent left atrial tumors present significant management challenges, necessitating repeated surgical interventions.
