Abstract:
The author analyses 5-year results of the treatment of 548 patients with breast cancer according to the type of the operative intervention: Halsted's radical mastectomy, Peity's modified radical mastectomy, and mastectomy with axillary lymphadenectomy. In stages T1-2, N0, M0 the results of all three types of operations were the same. No statistically significant difference was revealed between Halsted's mastectomy and modified radical mastectomy in stages T2-3, N1-3, M0 which allows it to be recommended for wider use.
