[Malignization of goiter]

From analysis of literature data and the results of their personal studies embracing 3,139 operations for diseases of the thyroid gland the authors conclude that certain forms of goiter (nodular and recurrent in particular) play regularly the role of background processes in the development of cancer of the gland. This provides the ground for setting apart such patients into a risk group. Marked dysplasia is the main form of precancerous changes.
