Purpose of the Study:

  • An in vitro study tested four commercial elastomeric interocclusal recording media (three addition silicones, one polyether).
  • Cylindrical samples (10mm diameter, 2, 4, and 6mm thickness) were prepared (n=10 per group, total 120).
  • Linear dimensional changes were measured after 24 hours, and compressive resistance was tested under a 25N load.

Main Results:

  • Kanibite Hard (addition silicone) showed minimal horizontal linear dimensional change; Ramitec (polyether) showed the most.

Conclusions:

  • Compressive resistance of elastomers is inversely proportional to sample thickness.
  • Using the minimum possible thickness for recording materials is recommended to maintain record strength.
  • Optimizing material thickness enhances the accuracy of maxillomandibular relation records in dental prosthetics.
