    Summary

A contour deformity resembling lipoma can occur after thigh or hip injuries in young women. Conservative treatments like massage and steroid injections are more effective than surgery for this scar-related condition.

    Area of Science:

    • Plastic Surgery
    • Dermatology
    • Trauma Medicine

    Background:

    • Severe shearing injuries to the upper thigh, hip, or sacrum can lead to contour deformities.
    • These deformities often present after initial injury management, once a deep scar has contracted.
    • The condition is frequently observed in young women and clinically resembles a large lipoma.

    Observation:

    • The contour deformity typically manifests weeks after the initial injury.
    • Delayed presentation is common due to the injury rarely being addressed promptly.
    • Scar contraction plays a significant role in the development of the visible deformity.

    Findings:

    • Active surgical intervention at this stage can exacerbate the aesthetic concerns.
    • Conservative management, including massage and pressure, shows promise.
    • Injection of steroids is also suggested as an effective conservative approach.

    Implications:

    • This previously undescribed condition requires a shift in treatment approach.
    • Conservative methods are recommended over surgical intervention for aesthetic improvement.
    • Early recognition and appropriate conservative care may prevent worsening of the deformity.
