Ventricular Tachycardia in the Young Athlete: A Systematic Approach to Selection of Drug Therapy
Abstract:
In brief: Sustained ventricular tachyarrhythmias, especially those causing sudden cardiac death, are uncommon in young people. When they do occur, underlying heart disease is usually present; sudden cardiac death is rare in individuals with completely normal hearts. This report of a 24-year-old male athlete with arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia includes a simplified, timesaving, four-phase approach to drug selection and points out the value of combinations of drugs vs the use of a single agent.
