Abstract:
In December of 1987 THE PHYSICIAN AND SPORTSMEDICINE published a list of professional organizations and resource groups that represented the growing diversity in the field of sports medicine. This year we have combined that listing with our list of government agencies, sports-related groups, and academic centers that are active in tracking sports injuries (April 1988, page 183). All entries have been updated. The list is now divided into three segments: 40 sports medicine organizations, 18 groups and committees that generate sports medicine information, and 17 statistics-gathering groups. Some groups appear more than once; they have been cross-referenced in each instance. Entries in all three segments have been arranged alphabetically. When appropriate, we have given the name of an administrative head, along with the chief elected officer. While THE PHYSICIAN AND SPORTSMEDICINE does not endorse any of the groups listed, we do encourage readers to contact the ones that interest them. All correspondence should be addressed to the organization or group.
