Vision

61.2K
Vision is the result of light being detected and transduced into neural signals by the retina of the eye. This information is then further analyzed and interpreted by the brain. First, light enters the front of the eye and is focused by the cornea and lens onto the retina—a thin sheet of neural tissue lining the back of the eye. Because of refraction through the convex lens of the eye, images are projected onto the retina upside-down and reversed.

Design Example: Identifying the Locations of Monuments in the Field Using Global Positioning System Device

443
Surveyors use Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to measure the precise location and elevation of points on Earth. In a recent survey, GPS receivers were used to determine the coordinates and elevations of two park monuments. The process involved careful mission planning, data collection, and correction to ensure accuracy. The survey began with mission planning to identify optimal satellite visibility and minimize Position Dilution of Precision (PDOP). A geodetic control point...

Selected Data About Geographic Locations

314
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) rely on two core types of data: spatial data and attribute data.Spatial DataSpatial data defines the physical location of features within a coordinate system, typically expressed in terms of latitude and longitude. It provides precise positioning for elements like roads, rivers, or buildings.Attribute DataAttribute data complements spatial data by adding descriptive information about these features. For example, a road's spatial data includes its start and...

    Area of Science:

    • Computer Science
    • Artificial Intelligence
    • Multimedia Systems

    Background:

    • Leisure tourism generates vast amounts of personal media data (photos, videos).
    • Effectively displaying this media to vividly recount travel experiences is challenging.
    • Existing methods lack comprehensive and aesthetically pleasing video generation from personal albums.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To propose SnapVideo, an intelligent method for converting personal travel albums into coherent video clips.
    • To personalize video content based on audience preferences and identified scenic spots.
    • To create aesthetically pleasing and semantically rich video summaries of sightseeing trips.

    Main Methods:

    • Scenic spot identification model for personalized video content.
    • Auxiliary video retrieval from YouTube based on selected photos.
    • View generation module for clustering crawled video frames.
    • Probabilistic model for integrating frames into a coherent video clip.

    Main Results:

    • SnapVideo generates comprehensive, aesthetically pleasing, and coherent video clips from personal travel media.
    • Personalization is achieved through audience class-based identification of scenic spots.
    • User studies confirm the method's aesthetic competitiveness.
    • Quantitative analysis shows preservation of semantically important travel spots.

    Conclusions:

    • SnapVideo offers an effective solution for automatically generating engaging travel videos.
    • The method successfully integrates personal media with external resources for richer storytelling.
    • The system demonstrates potential for enhancing the way travel memories are preserved and shared.
