Context:

Transient ischemic attack (TIA) in the vertebrobasilar artery system is often associated with vestibular and auditory symptoms.
Clinical observations suggest a higher prevalence of equilibrium disturbances compared to auditory deficits in patients with TIA.

Purpose:

To investigate the differential susceptibility of the vestibular and auditory systems to transient ischemic attack (TIA) in the vertebrobasilar artery.
To model TIA in rabbits using adenosine diphosphate (ADP) injection and assess its effects on equilibrium and auditory function.

Summary:

In rabbits, ADP-induced TIA primarily affected rotatory nystagmus, indicating vestibular system disruption, with peak effects observed within minutes.
Auditory brainstem responses (ABRs) showed minimal changes at lower ADP doses, but higher doses caused transient amplitude reductions, particularly affecting later wave components.

Electrocochleogram (E. Coch. G.) revealed temporary amplitude reductions post-ADP injection, with faster recovery compared to ABRs, especially under induced hypertension or hypotension.

Impact:
