Chemotesting of prostate cancer in xenografts

Abstract:
The subrenal capsule assay in the Nb rat, a rapid in vivo chemosensitivity assay, was used to evaluate human prostatic adenocarcinoma tissue. Pathologically confirmed prostate adenocarcinoma tissue from six patients, stages B2 to D1, was surgically implanted and grown for 7 days. The rats received chemotherapy on days 1-5. Effects were determined from tumor volume measurements and showed that Adriamycin (doxorubicin) was the most effective agent in three of six of the tumors. Two of the tumors responded to cisplatin and one to methotrexate.
