Angioleiomyoma is an extremely rare benign tumor typically found in the extremities. This case report details a rare instance of sinonasal angioleiomyoma in the maxillary sinus, successfully treated with endoscopic surgery.

Area of Science:

  • Otolaryngology
  • Pathology
  • Surgical Oncology

Background:

  • Angioleiomyoma is a rare benign neoplasm, predominantly occurring in the lower extremities.
  • Sinonasal angioleiomyomas are exceptionally uncommon, with limited documented cases since the first report in 1966.
  • This report focuses on a unique case of angioleiomyoma originating in the right maxillary sinus.

Observation:

  • A 43-year-old female presented with a two-month history of recurrent epistaxis and right nasal obstruction.
  • Clinical examination identified a large right nasal mass significantly obstructing the nasal cavity.
  • The mass was completely removed using an endoscopic endonasal surgical technique.

Findings:

  • Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of sinonasal angioleiomyoma.

  • The patient experienced a favorable recovery post-surgery.
  • No recurrence was observed during a one-year follow-up period.
  • Implications:

    • Complete surgical excision is crucial for managing sinonasal angioleiomyoma.
    • This benign tumor demonstrates an excellent prognosis with a very low recurrence rate after complete resection.
    • Highlights the importance of considering rare diagnoses in sinonasal pathology.
