Background:

Limited data exists on breast augmentation outcomes post-breast conservation surgery (BCS) and radiotherapy.
This study addresses the paucity of information on breast implant-only augmentation in this patient cohort.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the outcomes of breast implant-only augmentation in patients who have previously undergone BCS and radiotherapy.
To assess the safety and cosmetic results of this reconstructive approach.

Main Methods:

Retrospective review of 671 patients undergoing prosthetic breast reconstruction between 1998 and 2010.
Identified 19 patients (2.8%) who had breast augmentation after BCS and radiotherapy.
Analyzed data on augmentation type (one-stage vs. two-stage), implant size, and complications.

Main Results:

All surgeries were successful, with 19 patients undergoing augmentation.
The average breast implant size was 258.7g; contralateral augmentation averaged 232.2g.
Cosmetic results were rated excellent in 73.7%, good in 15.8%, and fair in 10.5% of patients. One patient experienced a minor wound infection.

Conclusions:

Breast implant-only augmentation can provide adequate cosmetic results for selected patients with breast asymmetry after BCS and radiotherapy.
This approach is a viable option for breast reconstruction in this specific patient group.
