Prognostic factors in traumatic atlanto-occipital dislocation

Traumatic atlanto-occipital dislocation (AOD) is a severe injury. Patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) are eight times more likely to die from AOD, highlighting TBI as a critical prognostic factor.

- Age, sex, polytrauma injury, and Traynelis AOD Classification were not significant predictors of mortality.
Conclusions:
- Patients with TBI are at significantly higher risk of death following traumatic AOD.
- Prompt diagnosis and management in trauma centers are crucial for improving outcomes.
- Further research is needed to explore the complex relationship between TBI, SCI, and survival in AOD patients.
