MUC Expression in Gallbladder Epithelial Tissues in Cholesterol-Associated Gallbladder Disease

Cholesterol gallstones are linked to increased expression of MUC3 and MUC5B mucin genes in gallbladder tissue. This suggests a role for these mucins in the development of gallstones and associated bacterial infections.
