Cancer02:18

Cancer

55.4K
Cancers arise due to mutations in genes involved in the regulation of cell division, which leads to unrestricted cell proliferation. Modern science and medicine have made great strides in the understanding and treatment of cancer, including eradicating cancer in some patients. However, there is still no cure for cancer. This is largely due to the fact that cancer is a large group of many diseases.

Hormonal Regulation01:40

Hormonal Regulation

49.5K
Hormones regulate a significant portion of digestion through activation of the neuroendocrine system. The neuroendocrine system of digestion contains many different hormones all with multiple functions that are both, directly and indirectly, involved in digestion.

Hormonal Regulation

36.7K
The renin-aldosterone system is an endocrine system which guides the renal absorption of water and electrolytes, thus managing blood pressure and osmoregulation. Activation of the system begins in the kidneys with a small cluster of cells adjacent to the afferent and efferent blood vessels of the renal corpuscle. As the nephrons are filtering blood, juxtaglomerular cells monitor blood pressure. If they detect a decrease in pressure, they release the hormone renin into the bloodstream.

Genomics

41.5K
Genomics is the science of genomes: it is the study of all the genetic material of an organism. In humans, the genome consists of information carried in 23 pairs of chromosomes in the nucleus, as well as mitochondrial DNA. In genomics, both coding and non-coding DNA is sequenced and analyzed. Genomics allows a better understanding of all living things, their evolution, and their diversity. It has a myriad of uses: for example, to build phylogenetic trees, to improve productivity and...

Endocrine Signaling01:45

Endocrine Signaling

69.0K
Endocrine cells produce hormones to communicate with remote target cells found in other organs. The hormone reaches these distant areas using the circulatory system. This exposes the whole organism to the hormone but only those cells expressing hormone receptors or target cells are affected. Thus, endocrine signaling induces slow responses from its target cells but these effects also last longer.

Summary

Neurology® Genetics articles are now searchable on PubMed, a comprehensive biomedical literature database. This integration enhances access to millions of research articles, including those from MEDLINE and PubMed Central.

Area of Science:

  • Biomedical Informatics
  • Scientific Literature Databases
  • Genetics Research Dissemination

Background:

  • PubMed, established in 1996, provides access to over 26 million citations and abstracts.
  • Its core content is derived from the MEDLINE database, with coverage extending to 1946 for biomedical and life sciences journals.
  • PubMed also indexes articles from journals contributing full-text content to PubMed Central (PMC).

Discussion:

  • The integration of Neurology® Genetics articles into PubMed significantly expands the discoverability of genetic research.
  • This move leverages PubMed's robust search capabilities and extensive user base.
  • It facilitates easier access for researchers seeking the latest findings in genetics.

Key Insights:

  • Neurology® Genetics articles are now indexed and searchable within PubMed.
