Giant vesico-prostatic and prostatic calculi.

Summary

Giant prostatic calculi can form years after transvesical prostatectomy, a rare complication. This study discusses etiological factors and prevention strategies for these large prostate stones.

Background:

Prostatectomy is a common procedure for benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer.
Late complications of prostatectomy are infrequent but can significantly impact patient outcomes.
Prostatic calculi formation is an unusual sequela following surgical intervention of the prostate.

Observation:

Three cases of giant prostatic calculi (prostate stones) are presented.
These calculi developed late after transvesical prostatectomy.
The size and late occurrence of these calculi are notable.

Findings:

Transvesical prostatectomy can predispose patients to the formation of large prostatic calculi.
Multiple etiological factors may contribute to the development of these calculi.
Understanding these factors is crucial for managing and preventing recurrence.

Implications:

This report highlights the possibility of giant prostatic calculi as a late complication of transvesical prostatectomy.
Awareness of potential etiological factors can guide preventative measures.
Further research into the mechanisms of post-prostatectomy calculi formation is warranted.
