Summary

Plasma cell neoplasms involve abnormal plasma cells producing monoclonal immunoglobulin. They can manifest as solitary plasmacytomas or multiple myeloma, occurring in bone or soft tissues.

Background:

Plasma cell neoplasms are neoplastic disorders originating from a specific white blood cell lineage.
These conditions are defined by the production of a monoclonal immunoglobulin by the neoplastic plasma cells.

Observation:

Neoplasms can present as a single, localized lesion, termed solitary plasmacytoma.
Alternatively, they can manifest as widespread disease, known as multiple myeloma.

Findings:

Solitary plasmacytomas are most commonly found in bone.
Extramedullary plasmacytomas, occurring in soft tissues outside the bone, are also recognized.

Implications:

Understanding the distinct presentations of solitary plasmacytomas and multiple myeloma is crucial for diagnosis and treatment.
