Patient selection and management in thrombolytic therapy: nursing implications

Thrombolytic therapy offers the prospect of myocardial salvage and a decreased mortality rate to thousands of AMI victims. Nurses working with patients during the acute phase of their infarction have an opportunity to influence directly the patient's outcome. As professional practitioners and patient advocates, nurses have the responsibility to gain the knowledge and skill required to administer safely and effectively this lifesaving therapy.
