Observation:

  • A 10-month-old boy with congenital retinoschisis presented with bilateral foveal schisis and tractional retinal detachments.
  • The patient developed amblyopia, vitreous hemorrhage, and rhegmatogenous retinal detachments.

Findings:

  • Surgical management, including scleral buckling and vitrectomy with silicone oil, was performed.
  • At 6 years of follow-up, both retinas remained attached, and foveal schisis resolved.

Implications:

  • Congenital retinoschisis can lead to sight-threatening complications such as retinal detachment and vitreous hemorrhage.
  • Early surgical intervention may be crucial in preventing vision loss and promoting schisis resolution.
