Mucosal burn resulting from chewable aspirin: report of case

A 4-year-old female patient with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis received a mucosal burn from chewable-aspirin therapy. She was given five chewable aspirin tablets before bedtime, and fell asleep before swallowing them. Mucosal burns from incomplete aspirin ingestion can be prevented by not administering aspirin at bedtime, and by cleaning the buccal vestibules with a cotton swab to ensure complete removal of all aspirin.
