Ethical footprints: finding a way through the research process

In common with other facets of modern life in the 21st century, the nursing research context is dynamic and constantly changing. It is not only the neophyte researcher who is required to keep abreast of current legislative regulations and frameworks that guide the conduct of research. More experienced researchers also require knowledge and understanding of contemporary research ethics and governance frameworks in order to conduct research and guide students. In designing, operationalising, reporting and disseminating research we ought to aspire to leave 'ethical footprints'. By this I mean that those researchers who follow in our research journey may tread in our foot- prints with the knowledge that the conduct of our research has been ethical.
