Even the most hardened emergency nurse will admit that there are few more distressing sights and experiences than a sudden infant death. The urgency of the crew bringing the infant in; the desperation of mothers who only a few hours before cuddled their baby in their arms; the sombre mood of staff who know that there can only be one outcome but who try anyway. It's a horrible experience for all concerned and everyone feels that even doing everything they could, they have still failed.
