Attention training improved brain activity in veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) during working memory (WM) tasks. This intervention reduced neural differences between PTSD patients and healthy controls, suggesting a potential treatment mechanism.

  • Attention training shows promise in reducing PTSD symptoms, but its neural underpinnings are not well understood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate if attention training modulates brain activity in regions associated with WM processing in individuals with PTSD.
  • To compare neural activity during a WM task between veterans with PTSD and healthy controls before and after attention training.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized high-density magnetoencephalography (MEG) with a 306-sensor array to record brain activity during a WM task.
  • Analyzed time-frequency domain data using a beamforming approach to image oscillatory brain responses.
