Background:

Emerging technologies, health globalization, and demographic shifts are transforming patient needs.
New healthcare paradigms and advances in delivery systems necessitate changes in nursing practice.
Social networking influences patient expectations and healthcare interactions.

Purpose of the Study:

To identify the future knowledge, competence, and skill sets required for nurses.
To analyze the impact of changing healthcare landscapes on nursing requirements.
To prepare the nursing workforce for prospective challenges.

Main Methods:

Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) was employed for analysis.
Enriched CATWOE and PQR elements of root definitions were utilized.
A "Too much - Too little constraint" approach was developed to define skill sets.

Main Results:

Ten distinct patient needs for the future were identified.
Sixty-three constraints influencing future nursing practice were revealed.
Eighteen essential knowledge, competence, and skill sets for future nurses were determined.

Conclusions:

Soft Systems Methodology is effective for structuring complex, real-world problems in healthcare.
The study provides a framework for proactive adaptation in nursing education and practice.
Nurses must acquire new competencies to address future patient and healthcare system demands.
