Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare hearing rehabilitation outcomes between younger and older adult cochlear implant recipients.
  • To analyze surgical and postoperative complications, and auditory therapy needs in different age groups.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective cohort study of 145 postlingually deafened adults.
  • Patients divided into two groups: 18-69 years (Group I) and 70+ years (Group II).
  • Hearing performance assessed using the German Freiburg monosyllabic word test (FM) and Oldenburg sentence test (OLSA).

  • Hearing performance stabilized at 12 months post-implantation and remained constant at 2 and 3 years for both groups.
  • Older adults (Group II) experienced significantly more postoperative vertigo and dysgeusia.
