Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the prevalence of PCHC conversations between healthcare providers and rural reproductive-aged women.
  • To determine the frequency of PCHC interventions received by these women.
  • To identify predictors of PCHC conversations and intervention uptake.

  • A questionnaire was administered to 868 rural women aged 18-45.
  • Data collected included reproductive history, healthcare utilization, and interest in PCHC.
  • Logistic and negative binomial regression analyses were used to identify significant predictors.

  • Predictors of conversations included race, provider type, visit frequency, and pregnancy planning. Race, perceived benefit, and visit frequency predicted intervention uptake, while prior conversation predicted lower uptake.

Conclusions:

  • Enhancing PCHC conversations between providers and patients is essential for improving awareness.
  • Targeted strategies are needed to increase PCHC intervention uptake in rural populations.
  • Addressing disparities in PCHC access and utilization is a public health priority.
