Summary

Eruptive disseminated Spitz nevi (EDSN) is a rare condition characterized by widespread Spitz nevi eruptions. Early detection and monitoring are recommended, though malignant transformation has not been reported.

Background:

  • Spitz nevi are common in children, usually solitary and on extremities.
  • Less common variants include agminated and eruptive disseminated Spitz nevi (EDSN).
  • EDSN, the rarest variant, presents as widespread Spitz nevi, typically in the second to third decade of life.

Observation:

  • This study reviews a case of EDSN in a 12-year-old female and analyzes 27 reported cases.
  • EDSN typically manifests with an abrupt onset over months, followed by a prolonged period of new lesion development.
  • Lesions predominantly affect the trunk, limbs, and sometimes the scalp, numbering in the hundreds.

Findings:

  • EDSN involves hundreds of papules and nodules, primarily on the trunk, legs, arms, and scalp.
  • The onset is eruptive, with new lesions appearing over an extended period.
  • Potential precipitating factors have been noted in some cases.

Implications:

  • Recommended management includes self-examination, total body photography, and dermoscopic follow-up.
  • Surgical excision is advised for potentially malignant lesions.
  • No malignant transformation of EDSN has been reported to date, suggesting a benign course.
