Background:

Choledochal cyst is a rare congenital biliary dilatation with various classifications (Types I-V).
Historically treated with open excision, laparoscopic techniques have gained prominence since 1995.

Purpose of the Study:

To present a case of choledochal cyst treated with laparoscopic resection.
To highlight the efficacy and benefits of the laparoscopic approach for choledochal cyst management.

Main Methods:

A 17-year-old female with a history of cholecystectomy presented with epigastric pain and jaundice.
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) diagnosed a choledochal cyst.
Laparoscopic cyst resection was performed.

Main Results:

The laparoscopic procedure was successfully completed.
The patient experienced improved jaundice following dilator placement during ERCP.
The cyst was resected without invading adjacent structures.

Conclusions:

Choledochal cysts require prompt diagnosis and management to prevent complications like cholangiocarcinoma.
Laparoscopic surgery for choledochal cysts is associated with shorter recovery, less morbidity, and better cosmesis.
Advancements in laparoscopic techniques position it as a preferred surgical option.
