Pre-eclampsia: an important risk factor for asymptomatic heart failure

Pre-eclampsia (PE) significantly increases the risk of asymptomatic heart failure, even after accounting for traditional cardiovascular factors. Prehypertension further elevates this risk in formerly pre-eclamptic women.

- Prehypertension was significantly associated with HF-B in formerly pre-eclamptic women (OR 4.3), but metabolic syndrome determinants were not.
Conclusions:
- PE is independently associated with a four-fold increased risk of asymptomatic cardiac abnormalities in women.
- Prehypertension exacerbates this risk, highlighting its importance in postpartum follow-up.
- Metabolic syndrome determinants did not show a significant association with HF-B in this cohort.
