Theoretical basis for equivalent circuit descriptions of the electric coupling between NMR coils and samples

We derive an expression describing the electric interaction between an NMR coil and sample which is the analogue of the well known Hoult-Richards expression for the magnetic interaction. The expression is used to describe the electric interaction between a conducting dielectric sphere and a long solenoid.
