Interleukin 6 gene expression in normal and neoplastic B cells

The interleukin-6 (IL-6) gene is expressed in activated normal B cells and in various B cell neoplasms, including lymphomas and myelomas. This finding suggests IL-6 plays a role in both normal B cell activation and cancerous B cell proliferation.
