Summary

Uveitis patients show high levels of various autoantibodies, including anti-ss-DNA and anti-ds-DNA. These findings suggest uveitis is an autoimmune condition, not just an isolated eye disease.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the presence and titers of antinuclear antibodies (ANF) and specific autoantibodies in uveitis patients.
  • To compare autoantibody profiles in uveitis patients with controls.
  • To determine if uveitis is serologically an autoimmune condition.

Main Methods:

  • Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to detect ANF and autoantibodies (ss-DNA, ds-DNA, Poly (I), Poly (G), RNP, Sm, histones, 16/6 Id).
  • 44 sera from uveitis patients and control sera were analyzed.
