Memory consolidation effects on memory stabilization and item integration in older adults

Aging affects memory consolidation differently. While older adults showed immediate nonword recognition, delayed recall declined, suggesting memory stabilization is weaker. Item integration, however, showed delayed effects, indicating its greater persistence in aging adults.
