jPOSTrepo is a new public data repository for mass spectrometry proteomics datasets. It offers unique features and joins the ProteomeXchange consortium to facilitate global data sharing.
Area of Science:
- Proteomics
- Bioinformatics
- Data Management
Background:
- Mass spectrometry-based proteomics is rapidly advancing, generating vast amounts of data globally.
- Effective sharing and reuse of these large proteomics datasets require high-quality public data repositories.
Purpose of the Study:
- To introduce jPOSTrepo, a novel public data repository designed for mass spectrometry proteomics datasets.
- To highlight jPOSTrepo's unique features and its role in facilitating global proteomics data sharing.
Main Methods:
- Development of jPOSTrepo with features like high-speed file uploading, flexible file management, and user-friendly interfaces.
- Integration of jPOSTrepo into the ProteomeXchange consortium, a global alliance of proteomics data repositories.
Main Results:
- jPOSTrepo provides a publicly accessible platform for diverse proteomic datasets.
- The repository joined ProteomeXchange in July 2016, contributing significant datasets from the Asia/Oceania region.
- jPOSTrepo enhances global data sharing and storage for a wide range of proteomics experiments.
Conclusions:
- jPOSTrepo is positioned to become a major data repository, particularly for data originating from the Asia/Oceania region.
- The repository significantly contributes to the global effort of sharing and preserving proteomics research data.
